Internship, Training and Dissertation opportunities at GSRC

GMDC Science & Research Centre, as the name suggests, is an entity of GMDC engaged in Mining Research and setting up a Laboratory on Minerals, Metals and Critical Metals, including REEs.

GSRC provides an opportunity to college students to familiarise and/or pursue research in different branches of Mining and Metals.

The Centre offers Internship/Summer training and Dissertation programs to selected candidates as part of their curriculum while they pursue University-level education. Notification in this regard will be posted on the GSRC website annually. GSRC is an institution of GMDC, wherein a dissertation can be done on Mining Research, Metals, Critical Metals, REEs, besides interdisciplinary topics with which the institute and its parent organisation are associated. The institute provides a platform for ongoing research projects, wherein the college students may be allowed to participate.

About the Programme

GSRC Ahmedabad, invites applications from research oriented students to apply for Training, Internship and Dissertation, which shall remain open throughout the year, but the application must be received two months before the start date of Training/Internship/Dissertation.

Eligibility & Requirements

  • Applications of only the following disciplines of students will be considered for scrutiny and final acceptance.
    • Integrated M.Sc./M.Tech.: Students from the final year;
    • M.Sc./M.Tech.: Students from the final year;
    • BE/B.Tech.: Final year students;
  • Minimum 50% (or equivalent) in overall grades in Mining/ Material Science/ Chemistry/ Chemical Engineering/ Nanotechnology/ Nano-Biotechnology/ or a related field of environmental nanotechnology.
  • Candidates who are interested in working at GSRC must apply in the prescribed format (click here). The candidates must bring a printout of their application forms, duly signed by the HOD of the respective department with the official seal, at the time of the interview for Training/Internship/dissertation at GSRC.
Steps in selection of project and making application.
  • Browse the list of available projects and identify your project of interest.
  • Each project would have requirements in terms of knowledge and skills. Please do not apply for a project that you are not equipped to undertake.
  • For further technical information on the project, send an email to mranand@gsrc.res.in You may apply for up to 2 projects at a time.
  • The GSRC currently has following projects running, the topic thus selected must related to them.
    • Research project on Development of Coal and Lignite additives that improve their Combustion Efficiency, Calorific Value, and Reduction in pollution levels.
    • Identifying indicator minerals and pathfinder elements in mineral exploration at Ambaji mines in Gujarat India.
    • Carrying out survey of snakes for Snake Park development.
    • Compilation of Book on mining comprehensive in nature and comprising of all aspects on the subjects that also includes minerals and metals.

Project duration:
  • Students will have to undergo at least 8 weeks of training continuously at GSRC subject to a maximum of 6 months.
  • Once the student is selected, he/she would be put under a supervisor.
  • The students need to accept the offer within 7-10 working days. If no reply is received, the offer will be transferred to the next applicant based in the waiting list.
  • Students will have to work on all working days. In exceptional conditions they may have to work on weekend and holidays but for which the approval from the Supervisor would be mandatory.
  • Once the programme is completed, students must inform the supervisor and arrange their presentation in online/offline mode at the end of their training/dissertation period.
  • Post presentation, the students would have to get their report/ Dissertation signed by the supervisor and submit it to the competent authority for issuance of the certificate. A copy of the submitted Report/Dissertation must be made available for GSRC’s library for future reference.

Other Details
  • Any Publication/Communication to any Journal that results from the work shall have consent of the supervisor and GSRC.
  • There is no fee for carrying out project works at GSRC. However, the student would be paid a stipend of Rs. 6000/- to 9000/- per month by GSRC, depending on their qualification and the period.
  • The performance of students will be evaluated at the end of the project and the same will be conveyed to their Parent Institute/Organisation.
  • The results of the selection process will be conveyed to the students within one and a half months of their application.
